About

We take cities personally. Malovey Labs works at the intersection of urbanism, art, culture, and technology.

The graffiti that goes up overnight. The storefronts holding a street together. The corner everyone calls by a name no map uses. None of it gets written down, and most of it is gone before anyone gets around to it. Someone has to keep that record, and it has to live somewhere the public can actually reach. That's the work.

In practice that means maps, registries, archives, and the data work underneath them. We build with business improvement districts, cultural institutions, tourism boards, and architecture firms, usually on-site, usually alongside teams carrying more ambition than budget. We keep the team small because the best work comes from people with something at stake.

We built Ottawalls, a bilingual street-art archive, from scratch. Institutions across Ottawa adopted it with no marketing budget, and the work was covered by CBC and the local press. The index is the public record of everything since.
